Why I support the approach being taken by the Flag Consideration Panel

I disagree with John Key when he compares our flag to a corporate logo or brand. However, I agree that it is time for us to have another look at our flag, and make sure it reflects the story of who we are as a nation. I don’t think the current one does that. In particular it doesn’t reflect our unique dual identity embodied in the Treaty of Waitangi.

That is why I support the approach being taken by the Flag Consideration Panel with their “Stand For” campaign. Once we understand what we value as a nation, designing a new flag should be easy. Ideally it could even lead to a conversation about our Constitution, and how the Treaty relationship could work moving forward.

Get involved and tell us what you stand for.
