Ngaio School Sugar Shake Up

It’s Junk Free June and we are celebrating by talking about all the places that are working to make our diets healthier. Wellington’s Ngaio School is one great example.

Recently the Ministry’s of Education and Health recently joined forces to encourage all schools in NZ to become water only. You can find out more about that in the Education Gazette.

Is your school soft drink free? Does it have a healthy eating policy? Schools are run by parents and the local community so your opinion matters. We have drafted a letter that you can send to your local school if you want to see a healthy eating policy put in place.

On a related note the New Zealand Dental Association will be shortly launching a campaign known as the “Adopt a School” programme where they will be encouraging NZDA members to adopt a local school to promote a water only policy. NZDA spokesperson Roby Beaglehole said “Dentists care about the oral health of our children and it is a great opportunity for dentists to show leadership in our communities”.
